England are strongly fancied at 11/50 to finish off their World Cup qualifying job against Poland at Wembley and left-back Leighton Baines is the pick at a massive 14/1 to open the scoring against Waldemar Fornalik’s side.

The visitors are 21/2 to send the 18,000 Poles expected to attend the game home with songs of victory ringing in their ears and the draw that would, in all likelihood ruin England’s hopes of automatic qualification is 21/4.

The Liverpudlian has scored nine goals for Everton since the start of last season.

Baines dug-deep to pull Everton out of the mire twice against West Ham recently with a brace of cracking free-kick’s that levelled things up before the goalscoring juggernaut that is Romelu Lukaku sealed a 3-2 win for the Toffees.

His first and thus far only goal in a Three Lions shirt was also from a free-kick against Moldova 13 months ago and seven of Baines’ last eight goals in all competitions have come from dead-ball situations.

Poland were pegged back over the summer by Denmark thanks to a long-range free-kick.

New Spurs star Christian Eriksen curled the ball beyond Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny from over 25 yards out to equalise in Poland’s 3-2 friendly win against the Danes in August.

Should Fornalik’s team become sloppy around the edge of their own box in the face of England’s expected attacking onslaught Baines and his trusty left-boot will be ready to take advantage.

With centre-half Phil Jones set to come in at right-back the onus will be on Baines to attack.

Much of England’s attacking play took place down the right side in the 4-1 win against Montenegro, but with Kyle Walker suspended and Andros Townsend thought to be facing a late fitness test Baines and Danny Welbeck will have to provide more forward thrust down the left flank.

The former Wigan man possesses excellent shooting prowess in all circumstances as he showed last season, with brilliant finishes from open-play at Newcastle and against West Brom and he can lead the way to Brazil by unlocking the Polish defence in north west London.
